A preposition is a bad word to end a sentence with. Or is it conjunctions that shouldn't begin sentences. And don't start sentences with "and".
This, as Churchill put it, is "the kind of nonsense up with which I shall not put."
But is it a question of style, or is there some sound grammatical reason? And what about sentences without verbs? Ungrammatical, inelegant or just plain ignorant?
Another area where there is a difference of opinion is in scientific terms that have non-scientific meanings. For example "Quantum leap" suggests a giant change, while for physicists quanta a very tiny. "Band width" has a specific meaning to transmission of radio waves either through the air or down a wire. This may be considered non-technical usage, or just plain wrong.
